How do I calculate the correct size of BodenWärme heating kit?

You will first need to work out the area of the whole floor space by multiplying the length of the floor by the width. You should then subtract any fixed furniture from the area with a clearance of less than 50mm above the floor. This will eradicate the risk of causing hot spots in your room. When you have a total area minus the deductions, you should deduct a further 10% from your total as this will allow for the spacing between cables and around the perimeter of the room.

Installation

  • BodenWärme heat mats are particularly suited to standard-shaped rooms and large areas. To install, simply roll out your mat and cut the rapid-fit sticky mesh backing and turn back in the opposite direction as needed. For optimal performance, it is essential to pair your BodenWärme mats with either the specified BodenWärme 5mm XPS underlay insulation or an equivalent soft XPS underlay.

Please note:

  • Installation must comply with Part P regulations and be completed by a certified electrician. Heat mats cannot be trimmed or returned once cut.
  • The maximum total size of 140w/m² BodenWärme laminate and wood heating that a single thermostat can control is 24m²; for larger areas, divide into zones with multiple thermostats.
  • The heating must be protected by a 30 Amp Residual Current Device (30mA RCD).
  • You should also ensure that the total current of your heating system does not surpass the current capacity of the circuit it is connected to.
