How do I calculate the correct size of BodenWärme heating kit?

To calculate which kit size is right for your project, you need to first work out the area of the whole floor space by multiplying the length of the floor by the width. Once this is done, you should then subtract any fixed furniture from the area with a clearance of less than 50mm above the floor. This will eliminate the risk of causing hot spots in your room. Once you have an entire area minus the deductions, you should deduct a further 10% from your total as this will allow for spacing around the perimeter of the room and between mats.

Installation

• BodenWärme's heat mats are particularly suited to large areas and standard-shaped rooms. To install, simply roll out your mat and cut the rapid-fit sticky mesh backing and turn back in the opposite direction as needed. With each mat consisting of wires only 3.6mm, these extremely long-lasting and durable mats minimise the increase in the overall floor height of your room. For added simplicity, the dual-core wire has a single connection point.

Please note:

• Heat mats cannot have excess cut off at the end or be shortened. Unfortunately, once the mats have been trimmed/cut, you cannot return them.
• The maximum total size of 200w/m² BodenWärme underfloor heating mats that a single thermostat can control is 16m². Should you require to cover an area greater than 16m², the area should be divided into separate zones and controlled via multiple thermostats.
• As with all electrical projects governed by Part P regulations, a certified electrician must undertake all mains electrical connections.
• The heating must be protected by a 30 Amp Residual Current Device (30mA RCD), protecting against electric shock. This can be situated via a dedicated fused spur or within the consumer unit.
• You should also ensure that the total current of your heating system does not exceed the current capacity of the circuit it is connected to. Standard domestic ring circuits are rated at 13 Amp, and you can take an electrical feed via a single 13 Amp fused spur.
