Description

When installed in a well-insulated room, it can serve as a primary heat source, freeing up wall space by replacing radiators. To maximise efficiency, install over underfloor heating insulation boards (6mm or 10mm thick) to speed up heat times and reduce heat loss.

How should I calculate the correct size BodenWärme heating kit?

First work out the area of the entire floor space by multiplying the width of the floor by the length. Next, deduct any fixed furniture from the area with a clearance of less than 50mm above the floor. This will remove the risk of causing hot spots in your room. Once you have a total area minus the deductions, you should deduct a further 10% from your total as this will allow for the spacing between mats and for spacing around the perimeter of the room.

Please note:

Heat mats cannot be shortened or have excess cut off at the end. Once cut/trimmed, you cannot return them.
The maximum total size of 150w/m² BodenWärme underfloor heating mats that a single thermostat can control is 20m². For larger areas, divide into separate zones and use multiple thermostats.
As with all electrical projects governed by Part P regulations, a certified electrician must undertake all mains electrical connections.
The heating must be protected by a 30 Amp Residual Current Device (30mA RCD), protecting against electric shock. This can be situated within the consumer unit or via a dedicated fused spur.
You should also ensure that the total current of your heating system does not exceed the current capacity of the circuit it is connected to. Standard domestic ring circuits are rated at 13 Amp, and you can take an electrical feed via a single 13 Amp fused spur.
