How do I calculate the correct size of BodenWärme heating kit?

To calculate which kit size is right for your project, you need to initially work out the area of the whole floor space by multiplying the width of the floor by the length. Once this is done, you should then deduct any fixed furniture from the area with a clearance of less than 50mm above the floor. This will eliminate the risk of causing hot spots in your room. Once you have a total area minus the deductions, you should subtract a further 10% from your total as this will allow for the spacing between cables and for spacing around the perimeter of the room.

Please note:

• Cables cannot have excess cut off at the end or be shortened. Unfortunately, once the cables have been trimmed/cut, you cannot return them.
• The maximum total size of 150w/m² BodenWärme underfloor heating cables that a single thermostat can control is 20m². If you need to cover an area greater than 20m², the area should be divided into separate zones and controlled via multiple thermostats.
• As with all electrical projects governed by Part P regulations, a certified electrician must undertake all mains electrical connections.
• The heating must be protected by a 30 Amp Residual Current Device (30mA RCD), shielding against electric shock. This can be located via a dedicated fused spur or within the consumer unit.
• You should also ensure that the total current of your heating system does not surpass the current capacity of the circuit it is connected to. Standard domestic ring circuits are rated at 13 Amp, and you can take an electrical feed via a single 13 Amp fused spur.
